I've had my '87 savage for a year now, and I bought it only after finding this site. I would say it positively influenced my decision. I read the posts in re to Witch Doctor's, and decided to throw some stuff out there:

As for advice and presence on the forum: Barbara Brooker, WD+WDO, hogrider, and Bruce Clarke- It seems like I know you all, although I couldn't pick any of you out of a police line up.

I just paid $400 for a tune up, clutch, rear tire and front brakes. My rear tire began cracking and only had 3000 miles on it, and the clutch was just beginning to slip, it could have gone a bit longer. The guy at the Ricks Import Parts and Repair in Colton says that I'm too heavy for this bike (down to 230 though) and I should think of buying something bigger.

He also said I should put thicker fluid in the front forks. My front tire is "cupping." What does everyone think? How would you do this?

Bought some used Willie and Max slant bags. They fit great except that I can't mount them under the rear seat without cutting the leather around the voltage regulator. Any suggestions?

I also had to buy and paint the right side panel (air filter cover) which fell off somewhere. Now both side panels keep falling off, the bracket on the left side is broken and the right side screw holes are oblong. I'll get around to fixing them. Any suggestions?

Oil leaks! all around the head, blowing back across the fins and coating the battery cover, pipe, and my new/used bags with ick! Rick says don't bother fixing now, since I'll probably have to have the top end done in another 3-5000 miles.

Also on the fix someday agenda:I like the tripometer ideas. My seat is split on two seams. I have a stock muffler that has been drilled out, and stock carb with that $30 air filter element. It would be nice to replace these. Again the guy at the shop says not to bother with any of this, keep it stock and do the cosmetics so it can be sold fast.

It's Saturday morning. Gotta ride.
